The Times’ Mikael Wood and Vanessa Franko are at the festival, notebooks in hand and bandanas in place. Here’s a rundown of the highlights and lowlights of Day 2. You may occasionally receive promotional content from the Los Angeles Times. “It’s a level of artistry that is only possible after 30 years of a career,” Adell said.
The space is essentially a series of massive interconnecting dining rooms, each filled with various fireplaces, wood-paneled walls, and of course, hundreds of framed acting headshots. As for food, don’t get too cute with your order—this is the kind of place where if your table isn’t filled up with caesar salads, massive plates of prime rib, and several orders of their famous garlic bread, you took a wrong turn somewhere. There’s always a wild card or two on the Stagecoach schedule, but the one that seemed most like a fever dream was the teaming of Clint Black, Diplo and Guy Fieri for a cooking demonstration late Saturday afternoon at Guy’s Stagecoach Smokehouse. Post Malone took a swig from a red plastic cup and wiped his mouth on the sleeve of his plaid-print Western shirt. After Coachella’s back-to-back weekends, barely any grass remains on the grounds of the Empire Polo Club. But that hasn’t stopped tens of thousands of country fans from venturing here for Stagecoach, which got underway Friday afternoon and runs though Sunday night with headliners Eric Church, Miranda Lambert and Morgan Wallen.

Perhaps Lambert was distracted by the high desert winds that kept threatening to blow off her cowboy hat; perhaps she’s spent too much time in Las Vegas, where the undemanding enthusiasm of a residency audience can soften a performer’s game. Either way, this was a reminder — after Church’s polarizing Friday-night gospel experiment — that sticking to the hits isn’t always what you want. From Jelly Roll’s big night and Eric Church’s somber set to Dwight Yoakam’s flying fringe, these are the biggest moments from Day 1 of Stagecoach 2024.

Trampled by Turtles’ afternoon set at the Palomino Stage was a callback to the early years of Stagecoach. When the fest started in 2007, there was another stage called the Mustang that was dedicated to bluegrass and it’s where Trampled by Turtles made their Stagecoach debut in 2010. It was a rollicking party back then like it was on Saturday. With a setlist that leaned heavily on the Minnesota band’s early albums, it was a welcome nostalgia trip. And 14 years after its release, set closer “Wait So Long” still absolutely shreds. Located exactly one crosswalk away from Warner Brothers Studios, Smoke House has been a Valley legend since 1942 and a place where, on any given night, you’ll find celebrities, set designers, and security guards all swigging martinis and toasting to another day on the lot.

“There’s obviously a God-given beauty and grace and talent. But it’s the fact that she works so extremely hard. “Those shows don’t just happen,” Adell said. “She’s showing us how hard she works to get it where it needs to be.” — M.W. Early in the day there are traditional line dancing demonstrations, a hallmark of the Honkytonk since it started at the fest, but since Diplo has taken over the branding of the dance hall, the space is bringing in more big-name EDM acts in the late afternoon and early evening. And if you wanted to see Dillon Francis on Friday or the Chainsmokers on Saturday (both artists who have played Coachella), you needed to be there well in advance to even get into the tent.

Thankfully, house centipede bites aren’t too much of a problem in terms of pain. The amount of pain you feel will be determined by the amount of venom injected into the bite. Their bites may be comparable to bee stings in terms of pain. Larger centipedes may deliver more venom, causing intense pain.
Where are you likely to find centipedes?
Centipedes bite in order to defend themselves and to capture their prey. House centipedes are native to the Mediterranean region but were accidentally introduced into the southern United States. They were first recorded in Pennsylvania in 1849 and are now widespread throughout the country and the world.
Do house centipedes have any benefits for my home, or should I eliminate them entirely?
But if you find a trail of pricks on your skin, it’s likely a “ bite” in the form of punctures made by the venomous forelegs as they scratch against your skin. Yes, house centipedes are capable climbers and (thanks to their long legs and high agility) can move across walls and even ceilings. Their numerous pairs of legs and rapid movement make them highly adaptable to different surfaces. Remember to regularly inspect and maintain door sweeps, screens, and your home’s foundation. These simple steps can create a formidable barrier against these nocturnal hunters.
House Centipedes: What to Know
If you discover no such problems, adding a dehumidifier to dry out moist areas like a basement may send the house centipedes packing. Believe it or not, but the house centipede is a skilled predator. They eat everything from larger cockroaches, spiders, and wasps to smaller ants and termites!
Do House Centipedes bite humans?
Empty the vacuum cup or vacuum bag into a sealable plastic bag and dispose of it in an outdoor trash can. The house centipede is an arthropod, a genus that includes insects as well as centipedes, millipedes, arachnids (spiders) and crustaceans (such as lobsters). The house centipede originated in the Mediterranean but now can be found across Europe, Asia, and North America. Centipede bites can be very painful, especially when the centipedes are large in size. While their bites are typically not dangerous or fatal, they can hurt as centipedes will use their venom as a defence mechanism.
Centipedes are found throughout the United States and the world. They are typically found in areas of high moisture, such as in rotting logs, under stones, in trash or piles of leaves/grass. When they invade homes, centipedes are most commonly found in damp basements, crawlspaces, bathrooms, or potted plants.
thoughts on “Do House Centipedes Bite? Debunking Myths & Facts”
This critter is a common household pest, seeking out a moist environment and solid food source in the comforts of your home. While not overly dangerous to people, a centipede might not be a welcomed guest. Centipedes will try to run away when you corner them, and some experts say that they don’t typically bite humans.
Is a Scorpion Fly Dangerous? Uncovering the Truth About This Intriguing Insect
The house centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata) is the most common centipede found in the U.S. These centipedes are sometimes referred to as “hundred-leggers,” due to their many pairs of legs. Their bodies are divided into 15 segments, each with a pair of long legs. Other species of centipedes have more legs, but they always have an odd number of pairs of legs.
Newly hatched larvae (which are rarely seen) have four pair of legs. During the next five larval molts, the centipedes will have 5, 7, 9, 11 and 13 pairs of legs (Figure 2). On the next molt the centipede is considered an adolescent and will have 15 legs during each of the next four molts, after which it becomes an adult. Symptoms of a giant desert centipede bite include intense pain, inflammation, redness, and swelling. Centipedes rarely bite humans, but when they do, it is usually because they feel threatened.

An unexpected guest: house centipedes cause alarm in Auckland.
They do not view humans as prey and will only bite if they feel threatened or cornered. These chemicals harm small insects but pose no serious threat to humans. The worst side effects from centipede bites are usually mild pain and swelling. If they persist, seek medical attention right away, especially if you notice signs of infection. Encountering a house centipede and getting bitten might be a rare occurrence, but it's still important to know how to respond if it happens.
House centipedes aren’t dangerous, even though they can bite. With that being said, you should always exercise some element of caution when picking them up. Spiders, wasps, and other insects with defensive tools can easily take the centipede out. They may sneak up on the bug from behind so that the target has fewer opportunities to fight back. That said, the vast majority of people will not experience anything more than some mild discomfort and slight swelling. To avoid infection, use a topical antibiotic and keep the site clean and covered.
Just like their outdoor environment, centipedes look for a damp location like a bathroom or basement. If centipedes are in the home, you can reasonably assume there are other critters around, as centipedes find and hunt other types of bugs. Centipedes can have a few dozen pairs of legs to a few hundred, which is how they got their name. In Latin, “centi” refers to 100, and “ped” or “pedis” mean feet. Whenever this insect is around your home, its speed and legs can be a discomforting sight.
They use both their mandibles and their legs for holding prey. This way they can deal with several small insects at the same time. To capture prey they either jump onto it or use their legs in a technique described as "lassoing". Using their legs to beat prey has also been described.[8] Like other centipedes they can stridulate. Although they can look disgusting to some, they don’t harm humans.
Their long legs allow them to run fast as they chase their prey, pounce on them, and wrap their long spindly legs around them, preventing them from escaping. The venom administered through a centipede bite is typically harmless, not life threatening to humans and symptoms are fleeting, lasting only a few hours. However, the larger the specimen, the greater the pain will be. Small children and individuals with known insect allergies may experience more severe reactions.

It’s typically a good idea to call a pest control professional if you have noticed house centipedes in your home. The professional can determine what insects are in your home and help you eliminate them as quickly as possible. The methods used will vary depending on exactly what types of insects are in your home and the extent of the infestation. They can also discuss prevention with you to keep the insects from getting back inside your home and to make sure the centipedes will not want to go in your home again. House centipedes are hunters and are always looking for more food.

Now, other centipede species are known to cause some pretty significant pain after a bite! Giant centipedes have a reputation for sending people to the hospital. Thankfully, that’s not the case with the standard house centipedes you see scurrying around in the dark. It’s a defense mechanism that the centipede is more than willing to use if need be.
Are house centipedes a sign of a more significant pest problem in my home?
Allergy sufferers may have to seek medical attention if a severe reaction occurs. There is another element to the bite that can cause irritation in those with sensitivities—more on that in a second. The redness and discomfort will last around 48 hours or so, which is why no one considers house centipedes to be dangerous. After that, the redness will subside while the pain dissipates.

Consider house centipedes a warning of an even bigger pest problem.
This makes it tough for the centipede’s prey to differentiate the front from the rear. There are a few methods you can use to deter house centipedes from taking up residence in your home. These carnivorous bugs eat other bugs, but mostly they just hide in dark crevices until they decide to scurry out and startle you. They like damp dark places, and tend to be more active at night, though if you disturb one of their hiding or resting places, you may see them scuttling about during the day.
Do house centipedes have any benefits for my home, or should I eliminate them entirely?
These centipedes can be found in almost any part of the house, although they are usually encountered in dark or dimly lit areas such as basements and garages. Inside the home, they can be found in bathrooms and lavatories, which tend to be humid, but they can also be found in drier places like offices, bedrooms and dining rooms. They are usually seen crawling along the ground or floor, but they are capable of climbing walls. Discovering a population of centipedes in your home could indicate other insects sharing your home. House centipedes will only stay where they have an ample food source. Centipedes are also partial to moisture, so investigate to ensure there are no leaky pipes or appliances that need repair.
What Are House Centipedes?
Install window screen in basement floor drains to prevent centipedes from entering from dry sumps. In the event of a centipede bite, it is always best to contact a health care professional. Besides a little discomfort, most dogs are unaffected by eating centipedes or receiving a bite. The two animals often come into conflict outdoors when dogs sniff around thick brush or clutter. Pests like ticks and fleas pose a much greater threat to dogs.
During the summer, they can sometimes be found outdoors in areas near buildings. Researchers have isolated more than 500 components of centipede venom, but they have only described a few of these. The bite looks like two red marks on the skin, which form a V-shape due to the positioning of the forcipules of the centipede. The symptoms typically disappear within a few hours or days, and there is a low risk of any long-term consequences.

If you did sustain a bite, it would feel like a mild bee sting. The house centipedes are not going to damage your home like other pests might. They do not nest, which means they won’t build any nest inside your home or damage parts of your home to create the nest. They do not create webs like spiders or infest an area like many types of insects will. Since they feed on other insects, they aren’t going to damage the wood in your home like termites might. They simply find dark corners to live in when they’re not hunting for food.
Pesticides
They will also come indoors, so it’s not unusual to find one in your house. Have you ever seen a many-legged creature scurrying so fast across the ground that you take a second look to make sure you actually saw it? Check information about other bugs and learn if they bite or not and what you should do in case they bite.
Centipede bites may look similar to bites from other more dangerous insects. If you aren’t sure what bit you, see a doctor, especially if your symptoms are severe. All centipedes have the ability to bite, although some smaller species are not strong enough to puncture human skin.
The large Scolopendra can inflict a very painful bite and should be handled with great care. Centipedes are generally considered nuisance pests, as they do not pose significant health or property threats. However, all house centipedes have poison jaws with which they inject venom into their prey. While centipedes do have venom and will poison their prey, they typically will only be aggressive towards something they can actually eat. If a common household centipede gets scared and bites you, you might feel a slight pinch.
However, in most cases, a person will not need to seek medical attention because a centipede bite is rarely serious. Some people may experience severe symptoms or allergic reactions from the centipede venom, but these occur only rarely. They eat a wide variety of pesky bugs, including flies, ants, moths, silverfish, spiders, and cockroaches. The average female house centipede can lay between 60 and 150 eggs at a time. So, for every centipede you see, there could be 100 more lurking elsewhere.
A few people have reported euphoric feelings, psychological effects, and memory disturbances following a centipede bite. People rarely report any serious symptoms from a centipede bite. Centipedes are found in areas of high moisture, such as loose bark, in rotting logs, under stones, in trash or piles of leaves and grass. When they invade homes, centipedes are most commonly found in damp basements, crawlspaces, bathrooms or potted plants. Treat stings and pinches as you would a bee sting or mosquito bite, with anti-itch and pain-relieving medication. You can identify a centipede bite by the two puncture marks where the venom entered your skin.
They’ve even been known to make meals of birds, mice, bats and snakes. The house centipede is thought to be native to the Mediterranean region, but Scutigera coleoptrata Is now well-established throughout Europe, North America, and Asia. They don’t leave much of a trail, so you often have to see them to get rid of them. But if you come across one, there are numerous natural remedies for centipedes, along with using chemicals. Centipedes are nocturnal, leaving their daytime cover to find food. They will enter a house through cracks or openings in the foundation, so checking your home for unwanted entrances is crucial to establishing a pest-free home.
But if I’m being totally honest, in some weird way it’s my way of experiencing getting to make one of one of the most iconic horror films of all time. In August 2006, Rogue Pictures finalized a deal to remake The Last House on the Left (1972) with original writer and director Wes Craven as a producer. In 1972, he did not have the budget to film every piece of the story he wanted to tell. Last week, the House Judiciary Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Jim Jordan, released a scathing report highlighting Bragg's political investigation and prosecution of President Trump, calling it a direct threat to our republic. Democrats’ corrupt and desperate witch hunts against President Trump must come to an end. This is lawfare and blatant election interference, and the American people know it.

There is also sound work by Krug (Garret Dillahunt), the convincingly evil leader of a pack of degenerates. This film, for example, which as I write has inspired only one review (by "Fright"), has generated a spirited online discussion about whether you can kill someone by sticking their head in a microwave. Others cite an early scene establishing that the microwave is "broken." The question of whether one should microwave a man's head never arises.

But it was the ending of "The Last House on the Left," with its major departure from Craven's original vision, that really divided everyone who watched the film. That first time I met David Hess face to face I couldn’t believe it. I mean, he was so nice but he has that powerful voice, and he was still fucking strong.

For the most part, the remake — starring Tony Goldwyn, Monica Potter, Garret Dillahunt, Sara Paxton, and Martha MacIsaac — remains faithful to the plot and tone of the original. Mari (Paxton) and her friend Paige (MacIsaac) are kidnapped, sexually assaulted, tortured, and left for dead by Krug (Dillahunt) and his gang. When Krug's gang unwittingly takes refuge in the titular house, Mari's parents John (Goldwyn) and Emma (Potter) discover what was done to their daughter and wreak equally brutal vengeance. The rights to The Last House on the Left were picked up by Rogue Pictures in 2006, with the remake being the first film produced by Craven's newly formed studio Midnight Pictures.
I didn’t understand how someone could make something so horrific, and after speaking with Wes Craven years later about it, apparently neither did he. It wasn’t just the rape that was brutal, it was the insane disembowelment that followed — but then there’s this crazy moment of reflection and remorse the killers have where even they realize they’ve gone too far. Craven forces us to humanize the killers, they seem to regret what they did, but it’s too late to turn back now. We had all seen the trailer, where you were instructed to keep repeating to yourself “It’s only a movie… only a movie… only a movie,” so I think I expected it to be worse than it actually was. I remember not necessarily enjoying the film, but being shocked by it, and then becoming obsessed with certain aspects of it. We hope this will be helpful for monitoring and combating antisemitism, as well as for educational purposes. We propose our non-legally binding Declaration as an alternative to the IHRA Definition. Institutions that have already adopted the IHRA Definition can use our text as a tool for interpreting it. “I am a cosponsor of the Countering Antisemitism Act, with Representatives Kathy Manning (D-N.C.) and Chris Smith (R-N.J.), legislation which implements key features of President Biden’s National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism. Protest leaders across the country, however, have rejected that characterisation. Instead, they accuse administrators and local officials of conflating support for Palestinians with anti-Semitism.
The opportunity to make “Last House on the Left” came when the distributor of “Together,” a piece of soft-core erotica directed by Cunningham and edited by Craven, offered to finance a low-budget horror film. Using the plot of Ingmar Bergman’s “The Virgin Spring” as a template, Craven scripted a deeply unsettling tale of brutality and vengeance, in which a pair of young women are raped and murdered by a gang of thugs who end up seeking shelter in the home of one of the victims’ parents. When those parents realize who their houseguests are and what they’ve done, they shed all pretense of middle-class propriety to commit acts of increasingly savage revenge. Craven might not have had any particular interest in horror, but by tapping into his own most primal fears and his rage about the political tumult in America at the time he created a film so disturbing that it remains the benchmark for no-holds-barred horror without mercy for either the characters or the audience. I am uninterested in being "consistent." I approach the new film as simply a filmgoer. Other scenes, while violent, fell within the range of contemporary horror films, which strive to invent new ways to kill people, so the horror fans in the audience will get a laugh.
The IHRA adopted its current definition of anti-Semitism in 2016, and its framing has been embraced by the US State Department under President Joe Biden and his two predecessors. Representative Thomas Massie, a Republican, also criticised the bill in a post on the social media platform X, noting that it only referred to the IHRA definition, without providing the exact language or stating clearly which parts would be enshrined into law. In a letter sent to lawmakers on Friday, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) urged House members to vote against the legislation, saying federal law already prohibits anti-Semitic discrimination and harassment.
But critics fear the investigation could ultimately threaten to withhold federal research grants and other government support from the universities where the protests are occurring. US lawmakers also have upped the pressure on university administrators to quash the protests, which they have portrayed as inherently anti-Semitic. “To find the legally adopted definition of anti-Semitism, one must go to [the IHRA website],” he wrote. IHRA’s working definition of anti-Semitism is “a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of anti-Semitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities”.
Distributor Hallmark Releasing, in partnership with American International Pictures, gave him and Craven funding after the box office success of Cunningham's Together (1971). It is also true that director and Dennis Iliadis and his cinematographer Sharone Meir do a smooth job of handling space and time to create suspense. The film is an effective representative of its genre, and horror fans will like it, I think, but who knows?
